Trong 2 năm gần đây, mình càng ý thức sâu sắc hơn việc xây dựng kiến thức, kĩ năng liên ngành (interdisciplinary skills). Việc đọc quyển “Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World”, do chị Thảo giới thiệu, giúp mình củng cố niềm tin về việc phải trau dồi interdisciplinary skills hơn. Một vài trích dẫn trong sách mà mình thích:
- Learning about the advantages of breadth and delayed specialization has changed the way I see myself and the world. The challenge we all face is how to maintain the benefits of breadth, diverse experience, interdisciplinary thinking, and delayed concentration in a world that increasingly incentivizes, even demands hyper-specialization.
- Highly credentialed experts can become so narrow-minded that they actually get worse with experience, even while becoming more confident – a dangerous combination.
- The bigger the picture, the more unique the potential human contribution. Our greatest strength is the exact opposite of narrow specialization.
Trong Notion mình có 1 trang tên là life projections, để mình theo dõi tiến độ của những kĩ năng mình đã tích lũy được, cũng như những dự tính đối với cuộc sống của mình. Việc xây dựng interdisciplinary skills giúp mình approach mọi thứ với một góc nhìn tổng quát, mới mẻ, và sáng tạo hơn.
Hi vọng bài viết này giúp bạn mạnh dạn học thêm một kĩ năng mới mà thoạt nhìn nó không liên quan gì tới ngành hay công việc của bạn đang theo đuổi, vì như Steve Jobs đã từng nói: “We cannot connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards.” Bạn sẽ không ngờ được những kĩ năng ngày ấy bạn tưởng chừng không liên quan lại kết hợp với nhau một cách kì diệu như thế nào đâu.
